Settled in 1846, its population has grown to about 10,000 today. The Ranch house plan reflects a traditional and practical approach to house design. Classified within the Modern family, the asymmetrical Ranch house plan is generally built with a low-pitched gable roof, deep set eaves, and a large attached garage. Ranches are typically built with one story or split level design. The exterior of natural wood, bricks and large picture windows, gives a traditional and no-nonsense feel. Ranch style homes have few decorative elements. The classic L-shaped rambling floor plan combines the living and dining areas into one, with a hallway that leads to the family room and bedrooms on the other side. Ranch designs can also be found in be rectangular or U-shaped styles.

The Fredericksburg, Texas German heritage is evident especially along Main Street where former Sunday houses have been turned into quaint shops and turn of the century buildings now house restaurants. Stroll down the street and feel as if you have been transported back in time as you shop.
